If you are upgrading from an older version of Announce and you are running System 7.x be sure to remove the old Announcer extension from the Extensions folder. The new Announcer is a Control Panel Device and should be installed in the Control Panels folder. See the file “Read Me/Instructions” for complete instructions about installing and using Announce.
New features in version 1.2.3 include:
- Increases the number of zone names that can fit in the zone lists of the Announce User and Announce Admin programs. Fixed a bug in the Announcer Control Panel that could cause Powerbooks to freeze when coming out of sleep. Updated T&T Software’s mailing addresses.

- A Volume Limit menu. Audio messages will play at the lower of the volumes selected by the sender or this volume limit.

- Audio from built-in microphones and sounds files can be added to messages.
- The send message box now exactly matches the dimensions of the received message box for System 7.
- Announcer re-enables receiving messages on Powerbooks after sleep.
- Announcer is now a Control Panel Device with user selectable options, such as enabling/disabling remote Restart, Shut Down, and receiving audio messages.
- Remote Shut Down added to the Announce Admin program.
- Sound When Acknowledged provides optional audible feedback in addition to the “Acknowledged” indicator.
